About Verus Minds
The meaning behind the name
Verus is Latin for true. It's a small word carrying a large promise: that everything we do here - how we assess, how we treat, how we talk to you about your care - is honest, clear, and free of the things that so often get in the way of good therapy.
Our commitment shows up in ordinary, practical ways. We won't promise quick fixes or outcomes we can't stand behind. We're clear about what therapy can offer and what it can't. And we begin every piece of work by understanding a person properly, before any treatment starts. Because good care depends on getting that first step right.
A clinician-led service
Verus Minds is a private psychological therapy service led by senior, BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapists. Between us, our founders bring around 20 years of combined experience in clinical practice and service leadership within NHS Talking Therapies.
That background matters. It means the standards we hold ourselves to, careful assessment, sound formulation, ethical practice, and treatment that follows national clinical guidelines. These standards aren't aspirations we've borrowed, they're how we've worked throughout our careers, brought into a setting where we can offer the kind of thoughtful, unhurried care we've always believed people deserve.
Why we assess first
Before any therapy begins, we start with a thorough assessment and formulation. This is where we take the time to understand what's happening, how it developed, and what's keeping it going - for you specifically, not for a diagnosis in the abstract.
We do this because therapy works best when it's the right therapy, aimed at the right thing. A careful beginning means the work that follows is purposeful and tailored, rather than generic. It also means we'll be honest with you: if CBT isn't the best fit for what you're facing, we'll say so, and help you understand what might be.
Care for the whole person
We see the people we work with as more than a set of symptoms. Difficulties rarely sit in isolation, they're shaped by health, relationships, circumstances, and the things that matter most to someone. Our approach holds all of that in view, so that the support we offer fits the person's actual life, not a simplified version of it.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is at the heart of what we do because it's evidence-based, structured, and genuinely effective. But we bring it with warmth, flexibility, and real attention to the individual in front of us.
What you can expect from us
Clarity about how we work and why. Honesty about what we can and can't offer. Therapy delivered by qualified clinicians within a clear ethical and governance framework. And a genuine commitment to high-quality care that we hold ourselves accountable to, not because a regulator requires it, but because it's the standard we'd want for the people we care about.
